An extensive network of mountain biking routes beckons you. So gear up and get going! Adventure awaits.

Ride

Whether it's adrenaline-pumping adventures or smooth scenic spins you seek, you’re sure to discover your new favorite ride in Grant County’s outdoor paradise.

Find more than 800 miles of trails in the 921,000-acre expanse of the Monongahela National Forest, where you can meander through meadows, wind through rhododendron tunnels, or race between dense hardwoods. The forest offers a little something for everyone, from beginners looking for a laid-back loop to seasoned riders rearing for a challenge.

For thrilling terrain and panoramic views of the Potomac Highlands, head to the North Fork Mountain Trail. Don't forget your favorite trail mix—this 24-mile ridge ride is ideal for an overnight bikepacking trip. Be sure to stop by Chimney Rock, one of the most popular destinations on the trail and one of the greatest views in West Virginia.

If it’s wide-open skies and windswept scenery you crave, Dolly Sods Wilderness Area delivers with 47 miles of trails. Known for its unique rock formations, stunted red spruce, and harsh terrain, this high-altitude plateau might feel like the Arctic tundra—but the unparalleled views of Canaan Valley prove its status as through-and-through Appalachian.

After you're cycled out, trade in your wheels for boots or reins and explore the trails on foot or horseback. Or cool off in one of the region’s hidden swimming holes—northing short of pure mountain bliss.

Refuel

You're sure to work up an appetite, so make time for a pit stop at one of Grant County's local gems to refuel and recharge. Whether you’re craving a stack of pancakes or a juicy burger, there’s a warm welcome waiting for you at Sue’s Country Kitchen or Cheetah B’s. You might even run into a fellow cyclist fresh off the back roads and ready to swap trail tales over coffee. Be sure to take notes—the untamed terrain of Grant County will be calling you back before you know it.
