"The List," a fast-paced political thriller about ordinary people, blends political suspense with Appalachian atmosphere. When a jailed burglar asks his old high school classmate to dig up a buried package, the mild-mannered professor who obliges uncovers far more than he expected: a handwritten list that ties a powerful congressman to a dangerous web of extortion. From that moment, he and his wife are thrust into a desperate fight for survival - aided only by their courage, love for each other, and their dog, who has risen to the occasion before. From a Canadian-like mountain retreat in West Virginia's Canaan Valley to a remote hunting cabin perched on the steep downslope of Allegheny Front (near Scherr), "The List" is a fast-paced, page-turning thriller about buried secrets, political corruption, and the strength of ordinary people.

Jack Bowman grew up in Petersburg and graduated from Petersburg High School, Class of 1956.

He is the Jackson Kelly Professor of Law Emeritus at West Virginia University and a passionate student of American history and rural life. A native of Petersburg and proud life-long West Virginian, in his retirement from teaching, he has pursued his deep interest in history and its accompanying mysteries.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served over four years as an officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps, Regular Army, and from March 2007 through February 2011, he served as Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army for the state of West Virginia.
