Folk Around on the Fairgrounds, Footpaths, and Freshwaters

With the rain-filled days of spring at our backs and long summer swelters at our front, there’s no better time to get outside in Grant County. It’s the perfect conditions for lots of things. The sun is a-blazing, but the waterways are cool. Produce is soon to be at peak picking. And folks are in the mood to get together for a grand old time.

You’ve made it halfway through 2026, and here in Grant County, we’ll take any excuse to get outside and be merry—so come and celebrate with us.

In the Water

Gear up with Water's Edge Outfitters, and you'll be ready to take on the South Branch of the Potomac River. They've got sit-on-top and sit-in kayaks, plus canoes and stand up paddleboards. But if your ideal summer day includes kicking back and soaking up the sun, their river tubes are just right for you.

On the Trails

We’re going to let you in on a secret: Trail snacks do not have to be dry and flavorless. Instead, they can be fresh and packed with love—they can be from the Grant County WV Farmers Market

We’re talking about freshly picked produce, airy sourdough and savory pepperoni rolls, freshly brewed teas and coffees, and more. Just stop by the Petersburg City Parking Lot between 8 a.m. and noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays June 6 through September for treats that are wholesome and delicious—the perfect combination for hiking or biking.

At the Festival

After just a few years, the Folk Around Festival has become a fundamental pillar of Petersburg. On Saturday, June 13, 2026, South Side Depot has all the best things about Grant County in store for you. Live Appalachian music, regional fare, local artwork, and, of course, the Appalachian hospitality that Grant County is famous for. Spend the afternoon exploring exhibitions at Landes Arts Center and Twin Knots Studios, then finish off your perfect summer day at South Side Studios between 5 and 9 p.m.

Then, come back to South Side Studios on June 20, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a class on watercolor landscapes. On June 25, 2026, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the celebration of community continues with a free workshop where you can paint stones for the new Celebration Garden at Grant Memorial Hospital.
