Now that you’ve gotten some fresh air, it’s time to treat your taste buds. And the Mountain State Maple Days sweetness didn’t end in February—West Virginia’s maple industry keeps celebrating right through March.
While you’re at Smoke Hole Resort, stop at the gift shop—the largest in West Virginia—for Mountain State maple syrup. To take even more highlands sweetness home with you, head over to Petersburg. At the South Side Depot Visitor Center and Gift Shop, you can select from a variety of locally made maple syrup and maple products. While you’re there, treat yourself to a Maple Bacon Cinnamon Roll from The Station Cafe.
Do you know what’s better than a tasty treat? A tasty treat with a story! Learn how syrup gets from tree to table at Mongold Walnut Farm, the state’s largest producer of walnut syrup, with a 1,200-tree walnut grove. On March 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., tour the sugar camp and shop walnut syrup and other products. That same day, over at M & S Maple Farm, you can enjoy freshly made maple cream, candy, and nuts, plus maple apple butter.
Although the beauty of the highlands will have your screentime lower than ever before, log your visits to participating locations using the interactive passport in the Driftscape app or web browser.
